    OTDL Employees on Penalty Overtime to be Priority-Scheduled over Casuals

    (01/16/14) In a decision issued Jan. 10, Arbitrator Shyam Das sustained the APWU's position that full-time employees on the Overtime Desired List (OTDL) must be scheduled for overtime ahead of casual employees on overtime, even if the OTDL employees would earn penalty pay.

    Staples Controversy: Illinois Local Delivers the Message

    (01/16/14) Postal workers in Springfield IL delivered a letter to the city's Staples franchise on Jan. 14 voicing opposition to the retail chain's plans for opening pilot postal retail units staffed by non-USPS employees in more than 80 Staple stores. Though none of the pilot locations are in Illinois, APWU members expressed their strong disapproval in the letter delivered by Lincoln Land Area Local President James O'Connell.

    NJ Local Doesn't Just 'Mail it In'

Managers of two of the stores seemed to be aware that a group might be coming, reports Local President LeRoy Moyer, but the manager of the third store didn't seem to be expecting them.

    Life Insurance Class Action Lawsuit

    (01/13/14) APWU has been asked to notify our members of a private class action lawsuit on behalf of beneficiaries of certain deceased postal employees. The lawsuit covers the beneficiaries of deceased APWU and NALC bargaining unit members who were employed by the Postal Service during the period that the Annuity Protection Plan was in effect, from July 21, 1981, through Nov. 20, 1994.

    New York Metro Sends Delegations to Staples

    (01/09/14) The APWU's New York Metro Area Local sent delegations to three Staples stores on Jan. 8 and 9 to deliver letters protesting the establishment of postal retail units staffed by low-wage, non-union, non-postal workers. "It felt good to take action," said Chuck Zlatkin, the local's Legislative and Political Director. "You see the Staples sign and you want to do something. This was easy - it was fun," he said.
